The SCDT is a community-owned company with a membership of 125 local people. It is operated by a voluntary board of directors appointed by the members. It is a company, limited by guarantee, and a registered charity. The agreed remit is, “to assist in improving the quality of life for those who live and work in Strathblane, Blanefield and Mugdock, and also for visitors to the area, working in partnership with other organisations or individuals.” Members are consulted through a number of sources:
Annual membership meetings
Members’ newsletters
The Blane Community newspaper, produced quarterly and distributed to 1200 households
The community website

As a community-based organisation, the SCDT depends on the voluntary contributions of members. The preferred method of working is through the establishment of working groups who recruit suitable volunteers to implement the working groups’ agreed remits. Working groups include:
The Blane Valley Carbon Neutral Group
Property group
Greenheart children’s play provision
The Blane Community newspaper

Grant applications by working groups are made in the name of the SCDT.
