Welcome to The Blane section of the Strathblane and Blanefield website.
The Blane newsletter has been running since 1999 and is distributed to the residents of Strathblane, Blanefield, Mugdock, Auchineden and surrounding areas, following the community council area boundary. It has a circulation of around 1000.
Its purpose is to inform the local community of items of interest affecting the daily life of the villages in the area. It also provides an opportunity for organisations to communicate what they are doing, and we encourage individual residents to contribute articles that would interest others, or letters on subjects that concern them. Our objective is to help everyone to feel a part of a vibrant community and to foster a real community spirit.
We wish The Blane also to provide a historical record of our life today and to include historical items, particularly those provided by older members and ex-pats by way of reminiscences and memoirs of their childhood. This helps to give newcomers a feel for some of the history that has helped to shape the community as it is now. History is being made all the time and we want future generations to be able to learn something about our life today through the pages of the newsletter – a rather grand idea perhaps but one that can be realised if we get input from young and old.
If you are reading The Blane and do not live here, write and tell us where you are and what you have read that interests you. We have readers in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA, and we even had a reader at one point in Afghanistan. If you have recently visited the village, write and tell us what your impressions were and if you enjoyed your visit.
We hope you enjoy reading The Blane. If you do, please consider sending us a donation to the address below. Alternatively, please place donations in the cash boxes in Browns, the library, the chemist and the Blane Valley Inn.
We can only continue to produce the newsletter so long as we are supported by our readers.
We are always looking for articles so get the pen out or start bashing the keyboard and contact the editor, Mike Fischbacher, at:
